world noir

My current book project, entitled World Noir, focuses on crime fiction from outside the Anglo-American tradition, with a particular emphasis on narratives from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. More specifically, I will be exploring the various changes this ‘travelling’ genre undergoes as it moves from place to place – responding to the sociocultural specificities of each new setting, and to the different forms of crime and criminality to be found in cities such as Tokyo, Accra, and Ciudad Juárez. Over the course of the study, I will be discussing a diverse range of narratives, including Akimitsu Takagi’s The Tattoo Murder, Nii Ayikwei Parkes’ Tail of the Blue Bird, and Roberto Bolaño’s 2666.
