world CRIME FICTION
Situated at the intersection of world literature and genre studies, my current book project focuses on crime fiction from outside the Euro-American tradition, with a particular emphasis on narratives from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. More specifically, I will be exploring the various changes this ‘travelling’ genre undergoes as it moves from place to place – responding to the different social, cultural, and political forces it encounters along the way. Over the course of the study, I will be discussing a diverse range of novels, including Akimitsu Takagi’s The Tattoo Murder, Nii Ayikwei Parkes’ Tail of the Blue Bird, and Roberto Bolaño’s 2666.
